Ukraine-Specific Adaptations
To be effective, virtual reality therapy must be culturally and contextually relevant. The BRAVEMIND Ukraine scenarios were developed through iterative consultation with Ukrainian mental health professionals to ensure they reflect the lived experiences of trauma in the ongoing war.
Civilian Scenarios
War-Damaged Apartment & Air Raids
This scenario simulates the experience of being in an apartment during an air raid. Based on clinician feedback, it features dynamic and layered sound design (drones, missiles, sirens), realistic visual damage, and culturally accurate shelter locations like basements and metro stations to elicit feelings of helplessness and sensory overwhelm.
Occupied Village / City
This scenario focuses on the unique stressors of living under occupation, such as the oppressive presence of enemy soldiers. It includes patrolling soldiers, checkpoints, propaganda visuals, and the tense silence of a captured city to address trauma related to fear, suppressed agency, and constant uncertainty.
Combat & Military Scenarios
These scenarios are designed to address trauma experienced by military personnel on the front lines. They feature realistic combat environments, character interactions, and dynamic threats that can be controlled by the clinician.
